The HerculesHoek (Herculesplein 5, near stadium Galgenwaard) is the new activity space and living room of Welkom in Utrecht. Ukrainians, local residents and other Utrechters can meet there, have a cup of coffee and participate in activities. The official opening of the HerculesHoek is on September 28 between 14:00 and 16:00. Join us!

On August 29 and 31, for example, we already organized two fantastic “writing Ikjes” workshops here as part of the Ikjesmarathon of International Literature Festival Utrecht! Led by Trea Scholten of Tools voor Taal, during these workshops participants learned how to write their own Ikjes – short personal stories or observations of up to 120 words. These ultra-short stories capture a funny, touching or unique moment, often with a twist. It was so much fun to read all the creative and funny Ikjes shared afterwards!

One participant said, “What a fun workshop! It’s fascinating how you can turn a big story into an Ikje.” Another Dutch participant enjoyed the collaborative aspect, saying, “It was great to do this with Ukrainians. They clearly enjoyed it and it was wonderful to see how, even without speaking the same language, you can still perceive emotion.”
