“I really enjoy the contact with people from other parts of the world. You can learn something from that.” Henny (85) already joined several times the dinner of the World Kitchen in the Nieuwe Kerk Utrecht at the Bollenhofsestraat. There, refugees from the Star Lodge Hotel cook various dishes to devour together with residents from Utrecht.

“Because of the contacts I made here, refugees now occasionally come to the library in Tuinwijk to do crafts and learn Dutch. That way I can help, which I like.”

Every first Wednesday of the month there is a buffet in the Nieuwe Kerk. It is an initiative of Welkom in Utrecht and Buurtbel Wittevrouwen. “We want to bring people from Star Lodge together with people from Utrecht,” says a staff member. “There are now about fifty people, and the ratio is about fifty/fifty.”
