Our refugee football team in the spotlights!

Our refugee football team in the spotlights!

How proud we are of our soccer team from azc Joseph Haydnlaan and how much media attention they received last week (deservedly!)!

The team was founded a few months ago following the example of Wageningen, where they already had a soccer team with players from the asylum seekers’ center. It can be difficult for boys from the asylum seekers’ center to join an existing club, which is why this soccer team is a great solution and offers room to develop soccer talents. Our men train weekly at sports club PVC and play in the official KNVB competition, with the efforts of 2 great volunteer coaches. Within this team the boys play together, regardless of their nationality or the language someone speaks. Because, “in the end, everyone speaks soccer here,” said Margriet Smeets, who coordinates the team from Plan Einstein.
