Foster parents sought for minor refugees
Do you have a big heart? And space in your home? Can you take it well when things go differently than you expected? Then maybe becoming a shelter parent for a minor refugee will suit you!
The Utrecht region is looking for people who can provide short- or long-term shelter for underage youth who have fled to the Netherlands without parents. These boys and girls have a guardian from Nidos with whom they have regular contact. This youth protector remains responsible for the young person during placement in a family and takes care of all overarching and future-oriented matters such as the asylum procedure, registration with health insurance and school choice. In addition, the youth protection worker has a supportive role for reception parents. Therefore, this person will regularly visit the family and the young person.
Foster parents are in charge of day-to-day operations. As a reception parent, you can be an important person in a young person’s life by giving them safety, warmth and the necessary attention. It also broadens one’s own horizons and you get to know another culture. It usually results in a long-term, beautiful and special contact.
To properly guide a young person requires time. As well as an open attitude, for example towards someone’s faith. It is also important to realize that the young person will probably have a lot of contact with his or her own family, which you as a caregiver are not usually involved with. In addition, communication can sometimes be difficult because the young person does not yet speak Dutch very well.
In short: being a childcare parent does not come naturally, but it is very educational and you can really make a difference for someone!
