Dancing at Yallah Sabaya!
“I went to a party for the first time in my life and it was exciting but also so special and fun to experience!”
Sometimes your heart jumps open when people share something with you.
Nargis from Pakistan came to Yallah Sabaya, a dance evening for women that we organize twice a year in collaboration with BAK, basis voor actuele kunst and De Voorkamer. A wonderful evening where women from all over the world come together to dance and get to know each other. Again there was a nice mix of residents from the asylum seekers center, status holders and other women from all over Utrecht!
In Pakistan it is not common for women to go out alone at night, but here Nargis could enjoy a nice party! And all the women could forget their worries for a while and danced away their stress.
Selamawit from Ethiopia taught the women how to move their shoulders when dancing and also they were swinging on great African, Arab, Western and Kurdish beats!
Even a Dutch woman who is a language buddy of one of the women and came to dance with us for the first time was so moved by what she experienced this evening… There is connection and togetherness without words! Our hearts are warm and filled for these women.
