Welkom in Utrecht and Ukrainians

For a few hours last Thursday, Ukrainians sat drawing. In concentration and with a lot of feeling. Because this is what intuitive drawing, or ‘neurographic drawing’ as it is called in Ukrainian, is all about, according to Marina who guided the drawing class. Marina herself gave workshops in Ukraine. Now she does so in Utrecht. For this she can use a space at ‘t Pakhuis.

It is an example of the many small initiatives for and by Ukrainians that Welkom in Utrecht has set in motion in recent months. Other initiatives include twerking, English conversation classes and cooking together plus of course eating, as happened last Tuesday with language volunteers practicing Dutch with Ukrainian refugees at De Boot.

Ukrainians from the more than eight locations join the activities that are already there, or are paired 1 on 1. For example, a 13-year-old Ukrainian girl now has drumming lessons, a 28-year-old lady has singing lessons, and women from Ukraine join in dancing on Monday evenings with refugees and neighbors. To name a few examples.
